Wounded warriors: Multiple identities, physical activity and life satisfaction

Purpose: The purpose of the current study was to examine a model specifying that military, athlete, exercise, and disability identities would predict life satisfaction as mediated by physical activity (PA). Methods: Seventy-one military veterans (N = 71) with impairments participated completed Exercise, Athlete, Disability, Military, identity scales Life Satisfaction PA questionnaires. Results: A mediation indicated indirect effect four on through not significant However, predicted 4 identities, [F (4, 66) 2.49, p 0.05] accounted for 13% variance, having only beta weight. also ([F (5, 65) 4.88, 0.001] 27% variance. athletic had weights. Conclusions: Our findings provide preliminary support value maintaining holding an identity. suggest sport psychologists rehabilitation professionals take more nuanced open-minded perspective about who desire maintain when becoming civilians.
